The Community Development and Planning Department is responsible for the short term and long term planning issues for the City of Cosmopolis. Some of these issues include zoning, land use, development of the Comprehensive Parks Plan, development of the cities Comprehensive Plan (Comp Plan), and working as the staff representative to the Planning Commission.
The community development department is responsible for seeking and writing grants for the City of Cosmopolis. Once grants are received, this department is responsible for the administration of the grants from the time the grant is received to the time the contract on the particular project is closed out. Some of the grants this department has received in recent years are Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grants for street and sidewalk projects at various locations on Second Street and on J Street. Other projects whose funding came from grants written by the department are the new playground equipment at Lions Club Park, The first phase of the Downtown Corridor Improvement Project, and the second phase of the Downtown Corridor Project that will begin in the spring of 2006. Funding has been received for Water and Sewer projects from this department as well.
Another important part of this department is the assistance provided to prospective businesses looking to locate to Cosmopolis. This department sits on the Grays Harbor Chamber of Commerce Board and is currently a member of the Port Cities Planning Committee helping to develop a Corridor Vision Plan for Cosmopolis, Aberdeen, and Hoquiam. |
